ON TRACK FOR GLORY: ASTON MARTIN VULCAN PREPARES FOR TAKE-OFF
![]() |
Aston Martin Vulcan |
Introducing the Aston Martin Vulcan – a track-only supercar and the British luxury brand’s most intense and exhilarating creation to date.
Born out of extensive motorsport experience – and using the brand’s acknowledged flair for design and engineering ingenuity – the 800-plus bhp, all-carbon fibre Aston Martin Vulcan promises truly extreme performance.
Uniquely for Aston Martin the new supercar – limited to just 24 examples worldwide – will allow owners the opportunity to precisely tailor their track day experience through a graduating scale of detailed power and dynamic performance adjustments.
CEO, Dr Andy Palmer, said: “Aston Martin Vulcan is, by its very nature, a rare and thrilling supercar. Designed and engineered to deliver a genuinely bespoke driving experience that draws on our rich heritage, this car tailors its power and handling to both the capabilities of the driver and the characteristics of the track.
“A sports car for true sports car lovers, I believe the Aston Martin Vulcan – and the unique ownership programme that sits behind it – sets a whole new standard in the ultra-high luxury supercar class.”
Motorsport-inspired
Styled entirely in-house by the Aston Martin design team led by Chief Creative Officer Marek Reichman, and with a design language hinting at the next generation of Aston Martin sports cars, this supercar is powered by the most potent iteration yet of the company’s naturally-aspirated, 7.0-litre V12 petrol engine.
With its 800-plus bhp powerplant developed in conjunction with Aston Martin Racing, this front mid-engined, rear-wheel drive sports car draws extensively on the brand’s rich GT motorsport experience.

Utilising the techniques of world-class motorsport engineering, the supercar sees its power-to-weight ratio exceed those of the GTE cars which compete in the FIA’s annual World Endurance Championship.
Comprising cutting edge engineering including that sourced from the brand’s successful GT racing campaign, the car features a carbon fibre monocoque and body constructed by Aston Martin’s long-term specialist body engineering and manufacturing partner Multimatic, integral limited-slip differential, magnesium torque tube with carbon fibre propeller shaft and Brembo racing calipers acting on carbon ceramic racing disc brakes which measure 380mm in diameter at the front and 360mm at the rear.
Drive is channelled to the 345/30 x19 rear wheels and Michelin race specification tyres through a race-bred rear mid-mounted Xtrac six-speed sequential shift gearbox.
Track-derived pushrod suspension with anti-dive geometry is complemented by Multimatic’s Dynamic Suspension Spool Valve (DSSV) adjustable dampers and anti-roll bars front and rear, driver-adjustable anti-lock braking, and variable traction control.
The new track car will comply with all relevant FIA race safety requirements.
Aston Martin’s Director of Special Projects and Motorsport, David King, said: “Taking the extensive learning from our various successful racing programmes and applying it to this exceptional track car for customers has been an exciting and sometimes challenging task for the team here at Gaydon.
“Our deep and broad motorsport experience, allied to our renowned road car expertise, has allowed us to make the Aston Martin Vulcan the absolutely compelling proposition it is today.”
Fast-track training
Prior to taking delivery of their cars, owners will be offered the opportunity to take part in an extensive and detailed programme of intensive track driver training.
Experienced racers including Aston Martin Racing’s Le Mans-winning Darren Turner will support owners on their learning journey, offering them the chance to refine their track driving technique and increase their ability through a carefully-constructed series of practical and theoretical driver training events.
Using a number of exciting high performance Aston Martins including the V12 Vantage S and One-77 road cars and the Vantage GT4 race car, customers will gradually build experience and develop their track technique, before beginning their thrilling personal journeys into the immense performance potential of their Aston Martin Vulcan.
David King said: “We will be running a series of exclusive track day events commencing in 2016 that will offer the opportunity for these customers to explore their driving capabilities, and the car’s performance potential, on some of the world’s most famous and glamorous race circuits.”
There will also be the option of time in the virtual race car world of Darren Turner’s Base Performance Simulators, where buyers will have ample opportunity to further refine their driving style in the safety of the digital race track.

No longer the exclusive preserve of Formula 1, it is widely acknowledged that using a simulator can help prepare a driver for any race; improving technique and consistency as well as, ultimately, lap times.
Almost infinitely flexible in terms of colour and trim options, the exclusive new sports car will be offered to buyers through Aston Martin’s VIP sales programme, using the expertise and luxury customer service that is now a hallmark of the brand’s ‘Q by Aston Martin’ bespoke personalisation service.
Dr Palmer added: “We have already received strong interest from the customers we have spoken to about Aston Martin Vulcan.
“The cars will blend our traditional Aston Martin values of Power, Beauty and Soul with an unrivalled ownership experience; a unique combination that will guarantee their place in the brand’s rich and charismatic history.”
Performance data, together with further technical details about the ultra-exclusive track-only supercar, will be released closer to its track debut later this year.
The Aston Martin Vulcan will make its world debut on the brand’s new stand at the 85th Geneva International Motor Show (Hall 5 Stand 5253) at 10.15am on Tuesday March 3.

ASTON MARTIN DBX CONCEPT CHALLENGES CONVENTION
![]() |
Aston Martin DBX Concept |
Aston Martin today challenges the nature of luxury GT travel in the 21st Century with the debut at the 85th Geneva International Motor Show of the innovative DBX Concept.
Created to defy conventional thinking about the luxury GT segment, the DBX Concept widens the appeal of the iconic British luxury brand and reaches out to a more diverse global audience than ever before.
Unveiling the concept, Aston Martin CEO Dr Andy Palmer said: “The DBX Concept is a challenge to the existing status quo in the high luxury GT segment. It envisages a world, perhaps a world not too far away, when luxury GT travel is not only stylish and luxurious but also more practical, more family-friendly and more environmentally responsible.
“I asked my team at Aston Martin to expand their thinking beyond conventions, to explore what the future of luxury GT motoring would look like in years ahead, and the DBX Concept you see before you is the result.”
Dr Palmer added: “This is, clearly, not a production-ready sports GT car, but it is a piece of fresh, bold thinking about what Aston Martin GT customers around the world could request of us in the future.
“The DBX Concept is more than a thought starter for us and for our customers, though. We will, in due course, be entering a car into the new DBX space and I am very much looking forward to seeing how this concept is received not only here today, but also by our legion of existing loyal customers and by those potential customers around the world who have, to this point, yet to consider one of our cars.”
Harmonious design
Imagined by Chief Creative Officer Marek Reichman and his team at the brand’s global headquarters in Gaydon, Warwickshire, the all-electric DBX Concept showcases not only cutting edge engineering but also a major evolution of the British brand’s world-renowned and highly-regarded design language.
Clearly signalling an extension to the brand’s existing model lines in the future, the all-wheel drive DBX Concept seamlessly combines traditional Aston Martin beauty with elegant new engineering that gracefully aligns form and function.
Capable of accommodating four adults in comfort, the DBX Concept also majors on day-to-day practicality. It offers generous luggage capacity by virtue of the fact that its rear trunk and forward load bay can both accept passengers’ belongings.
Opulence and cutting edge style go hand-in-hand in the DBX Concept thanks to a unique fusion of high luxury and advanced technology. These characteristics, allied to the ingenious use of unconventional materials and finishes inside and out, are calculated to further broaden the appeal of Aston Martin.
The concept’s exterior bright work emphasises the brand’s approach to the use of authentic materials, and is made up of machined billet aluminium with visible milling lines in a piece of exquisite craftsmanship intended to be seen as the car’s jewellery. The DBX Concept’s unique paint finish – Black Pearl Chromium – has been specially created to mimic the look of a genuine black pearl, and comprises a micro-fine layer of chrome to deliver a level of reflectivity that cannot be obtained through normal paint finishes.
Inside, the deliberate use of non-automotive standard materials generates a uniquely soft, cocooning ambience. The extensive application of velvet-like Nubuck leather contrasts with the concept’s hard, hi-tech equipment. The exposed leather reveals a sandwiched accent layer, more akin to high-end furniture, while the car’s interior bright ware matches that of the exterior with the addition of a gold ‘pin striping’ element on the edging.
Marek Reichman explained: “The exceptional craftsmanship, with detailing more typically seen on luxury consumer goods or fine jewellery, gives the DBX Concept genuinely global appeal.”
Experimental engineering
Embracing the very latest engineering techniques and theories, the DBX Concept needs no engine compartment thanks to its use of electric, inboard-of-wheel, motors powered by lithium sulphur cells.
Drive-by-wire electric steering, toughened glass with an auto-dimming ‘smart glass’ inter-layer, and bespoke driver and passenger head-up displays are further examples of its cutting edge technology.
Active LED exterior lights, carbon ceramic brakes with a kinetic energy recovery system (KERS) and rear view cameras in place of conventional mirrors also underline the mould-breaking nature of this luxury GT concept.
Dr Palmer explained: “A concept car such as this should, in my view, challenge conventional thinking and explore the art of the possible. In the DBX Concept, I believe we have created a new type of luxury car that can not only broaden the appeal of Aston Martin to a whole new generation of customers, but sit with pride alongside the rest of our range."

ASTON MARTIN DEFINES THE ROAD AHEAD FOR ITS SECOND CENTURY
Aston Martin is confidently looking toward the future at the 85th Geneva International Motor Show, as CEO Dr Andy Palmer leads the luxury British brand into a bold new era reaching far into the next decade.
The global unveiling of the Aston Martin DBX Concept in Switzerland today signals a key change in the brand’s thinking, as Dr Palmer challenges his team to re-evaluate and expand the high luxury GT sector in the years ahead.
Dr Palmer said: “The Geneva show this year marks the first public signs of a revolution at Aston Martin – a revolution we’re calling ‘Second Century’.
“While the exceptional new Aston Martin Vulcan track-only supercar and Vantage GT3 special edition road car represent a take on our immediate future, the exciting DBX Concept is Aston Martin’s first public statement about how the high luxury GT sector could, and in our view should, evolve in the years to come.”
He added: “The DBX Concept is our view on ‘the art of the possible’ for Aston Martin. DBX may be seen as challenging and perhaps even revolutionary in some quarters – but it is not science fiction. I can confirm today that we will in the future be offering a car in the new DBX space.”
Looking to the future
Having marked his first 150 days as CEO last week, Dr Palmer is using his first major global motor show at the head of the 102-year-old sports car maker to showcase his comprehensive strategy for the ongoing growth and development of the renowned British brand. The plan will ensure Aston Martin is secure and successful in its second century and Dr Palmer detailed the developmental and organisational actions that will underpin continued success.
Dr Palmer revealed Aston Martin’s regional office structure is also being enhanced this year with a new office for Asia-Pacific opening in Singapore, a new trading company in Japan and the brand’s European presence strengthened at its regional headquarters in Frankfurt, Germany.
The company is continuing to invest in progressive expansion of its geographical coverage. Today, Aston Martin is present in 45 markets worldwide, served by 155 top class dealer partners.
There is also important news in Geneva about the expansion of the recently-unveiled Lagonda Taraf super-saloon to markets outside the Middle East. Dr Palmer confirmed that the luxurious new car will be available in the EU, and EU-regulation compliant markets. He also revealed that buyers in the UK, and other right-hand drive markets, will now be able to order the Lagonda Taraf.
Bespoke brilliance
This year, the brand will expand its popular and growing bespoke personalisation service – Q by Aston Martin – and fully integrate it into the company’s Special Products Division. The new business unit will be able to deliver anything from unique interiors to creating the DB10 that will feature in the next James Bond film.
Many of the sports cars built at Gaydon feature elements of Q by Aston Martin content, and the opportunity to grow that further is clear as the brand focuses even more intently on personalised customer service.
Dr Palmer said: “Often cynics dismiss talk of a ‘new era’ in any business as hype but I know the cars we have on show here today at Geneva, along with the major work that’s ongoing in the UK and around the world to re-tool and re-equip our business for the exciting times ahead, more than merits the use of the phrase.
“Aston Martin has a proud 102-year heritage of luxury sports cars and, with the exciting plans we now have in place that put customers once again at the very heart of our thinking and our operations, I’m confident it will continue to shine as a luxury business in the decades ahead.”

ASTON MARTIN CELEBRATES CENTENARY YEAR WITH ITS MOST AMBITIOUS RACING PROGRAMME TO DATE
Four Vantage GTEs will be entered into the
full FIA World Endurance Championship
Aston Martin Racing retains Darren Turner and
Stefan Mücke for 2013
Frédéric Makowiecki and Bruno Senna signed to
drive a second GTE Pro car Major upgrades to the Vantage GTE
The team aims for win at Le Mans and in the
WEC
Aston Martin Racing has
unveiled its most ambitious motorsport programme to date as it aims to win both
the 24 Hours of Le Mans and the FIA World Endurance Championship (WEC), as the
marque celebrates its centenary year.
Underlining the success of its return to GT racing in 2012
and its commitment to the WEC, the team has confirmed a four-car entry into the
series; two Vantage GTEs in both the Pro and Am classes.
Entry into the series means that each of the four V8-powered
Vantage GTEs will compete at the 24 Hours of Le Mans, the third round of the
WEC on 22nd-23rd June, making this the largest factory team entry into the
event by Aston Martin in the history of the marque. Two potential further
entries for Le Mans and selected WEC rounds are on the reserve list.
The GTE Pro entries, #97 and #99, will be the heavily-revised
2013 Vantage GTE. Dan Sayers, chief engineer at Aston Martin Racing explains:
“When redeveloping the race-winning 2012 Vantage GTE for the 2013 season, the
design team focussed on increasing the drivability of the car and optimising
the performance.”
The new Gulf-liveried #97 machine will once again be piloted
by Darren Turner (GB), who celebrates his 9th season driving for the team.
Stefan Mücke (D), who joined the team in 2008, will partner Turner once again.
Together, Turner and Mücke will contest every round of the WEC with the aim of
winning the GTE Pro championship. For the 24 Hours of Le Mans and for the
second round of the WEC, the Six Hours of Spa-Francorchamps, Peter Dumbreck
(GB), who returns to GT racing after competing in the 2012 WEC in the LMP1
category, will join the team.
The second GTE Pro car, the #99 Vantage GTE, will bring some
new faces to Aston Martin Racing; Formula One driver Bruno Senna (BR) and
Frenchman Frédéric Makowiecki will drive at each round of the WEC and will be
joined by Rob Bell (GB) for the 24 Hours of Le Mans and Six Hours of
Spa-Francorchamps.
The #95 car is a brand new Vantage GTE, which, in accordance
with the WEC GTE Am class regulations, is built to 2012 specification. The car
– which proved its competitiveness by winning the 2012 Six Hours of Shanghai in
the hands of the factory team – will be driven by three Danes; Allan Simonsen,
Christoffer Nygard and Kristian Poulsen. The trio are no strangers to Aston
Martin Racing following their GTE Am entry at Le Mans last year.
The final car in the four-strong line up – the #96, which is
a new car identical to the #95 car – will run in the GTE Am category and will
see Roald Goethe (D) and Stuart Hall (GB) team up once again. The pair, who
proved to be a formidable force for Aston Martin Racing last year at the Six
Hours of Silverstone, will be joined by FIA GT Championship-winning driver
Jamie Campbell-Walter (GB).
In addition to the WEC programme, Turner, Mücke and Senna
will contest the first round of the American Le Mans Series, the 12 Hours of
Sebring, on 16th March in the 2013 Vantage GTE.
David Richards, Chairman of Aston Martin, comments: “There is
a real sense of anticipation in the Aston Martin Racing team this year and a
belief that it is once again our time to return to the top step of the podium
at Le Mans. It would be a fitting way for Aston Martin, which has such a rich
heritage in motorsport and particularly at Le Mans, to cap its centenary year.”
John Gaw, managing director and team principal at Aston
Martin Racing adds: “Last year we proved how fast and reliable the car was, and
our two GTE Am entries will pick up where the Pro car finished with victory in
Shanghai last year.
“Overall, around 30 per cent of all components on the
2013-specification Pro cars are new, which makes for a significant improvement.
We looked at specific areas where we could take weight out of the car and
redistribute it to a better location. We have also revised the suspension,
which has not only improved the handling but, when combined with the new fly-by
wire throttle allowed under this year’s regulations, makes the car easier to
drive.
“Our aim is to win at Le Mans and in the WEC and we are
particularly pleased to welcome such a professional driver line-up to Aston
Martin Racing for this centenary year.”
The V8-powered Vantage GTE is based upon Aston Martin’s
sportiest road-going model, the Vantage coupé. It shares that car’s bonded
aluminium structure and fundamental engine and suspension designs, emphasising
the base car’s inherent sporting nature.
Aston Martin Racing’s season gets underway at the 12 Hours of
Sebring, Florida, on March 16th, while the 2013 WEC begins on Sunday 14th April
at the team’s home round of the series, the Six Hours of Silverstone. Follow

The Aston Martin Rapide S: More Power, More Beauty, Same Soul
· Rapide S is the most powerful four-door Aston
Martin to date
· Peak output jumps 17% as new 6.0-litre V12
engine produces 558 PS
· More assertive new look emphasises Rapide S’
sports car character
The stunning new Aston Martin Rapide S is making its
debut with yet more luxury and yet more power on offer in its quintessentially
elegant four-door silhouette.
The iconic British car maker’s new luxury GT has been
sympathetically redesigned andpainstakingly re-engineered to reassert its
position as the world’s most beautiful, and beautifully balanced, four-seat
sports car.
Aside from the extensive design and engineering
improvements, the luxurious new Rapide S – which replaces the outgoing Rapide
in markets worldwide – is now even more refined thanks to a range of additions
to the four-seater’s sumptuous interior.
Still instantly recognisable as an Aston Martin, of
course, the new Rapide S now boasts an imposing and assertive new ‘face’,
created by virtue of the impressive and striking new full grille.
Imbuing the new car with an even more sporting, forceful
demeanour, the revised front end design is matched at the back by a striking
new rear deck profile which includes a more pronounced boot lid ‘flip’. The
aerodynamic and aesthetic upgrades both reinforce the sporting nature of new
Rapide S and work to counteract lift at higher speeds.
Aston Martin Chief Executive Officer, Dr Ulrich Bez said:
“The Rapide S is to me, without doubt, the most beautiful four-door sports car
on the market today. This is, very clearly, the power of luxury in action.
“The car’s stunning visual appeal is now matched by a
much more powerful and yet more efficient engine – our exceptional new AM11 V12
– which increases massively both the excitement and performance potential of
the Rapide S.
“It is a four-door sports car that uniquely combines
luxury, style and sporting excitement in Aston Martin’s most flexible and
accommodating silhouette. Purity of proportion and exceptional elegance are
mixed with truly sensational dynamic performance – this is the four-door sports
car in its most versatile form and I am sure our customers around the world are
going to love it!”
Engineered to excel
Changes under the new Rapide’s skin are comprehensive,
with a version of the new AM11 naturally-aspirated 6.0-litre V12 powerplant
delivering unprecedented power and improved in-gear acceleration.
Power from the new engine jumps significantly versus that
of its predecessor: up by 17% or a massive 81 PS from 477 PS at 6,000 rpm to a
now very substantial 558 PS at 6,750 rpm.
Peak torque increases, too, up from 600 Nm to 620 Nm at
5,000 rpm. Meanwhile an even more marked improvement in torque occurs lower
down the rev range, as pulling power rises by more than 40 Nm between idle and
4,000 rpm with an additional 50 Nm available at 2,500 rpm.
Naturally, increases in power and torque lead to even
swifter performance as befits a four-door sports car. New Rapide S shaves 0.3
seconds off its 0-62 mph time, which drops from the 5.2 seconds of the current
car to just 4.9 seconds for the new model. Top speed climbs, meanwhile, to 190
mph.
The 5,935 cc naturally aspirated V12 boasts race car
technology – developments derived directly from Aston Martin Racing’s
successful WEC GT campaign – to maximise both performance and efficiency. The
new AM11 engine thus boasts fully CNC machined combustion chambers and lighter,
hollow, cam shafts.
Dual variable camshaft timing, knock sensing, even the
fully catalysed stainless steel exhaust system – these are all engineering
advances developed to preserve the V12’s position as a mainstay of the Aston
Martin range.
The engine is now even more efficient, too. Despite the
very significant increase in peak power and torque, the Rapide S is appreciably
more economical than before. CO2 emissions drop by seven per cent – from 355
g/km to 332 g/km – while fuel economy now stands at 19.9 mpg on the official EU
combined cycle.
A product of the latest generation of Aston Martin’s
world-renowned VH engineering philosophy, which debuted in 2003, the new car of
course benefits from many elements of the current Gen4 VH architecture.
The carefully conceived engineering changes continue as
the new Rapide now offers even sharper agility and even quicker responses to
driver input. The new AM11 engine – a key Gen4 component – has been lowered by
19 mm versus the position of the powerplant in the previous car, with a
corresponding reduction in the sports car’s centre of gravity.
The changes also lead to a tangible improvement in front
end turn-in – no mean feat for a car that was already acknowledged as a leader
in dynamic performance.
Aston Martin engineers at the company’s global HQ in
Gaydon have worked to revise the car’s dynamic stability control (DSC) in line
with its significant increases in both power and torque.
As befits the more sporting nature of new Rapide S the
car benefits from the latest Gen4 iteration of Aston Martin’s hi-tech Adaptive
Damping System (ADS). The system now offers three distinct settings: ‘Normal’,
‘Sport’ and ‘Track’, with the character of each being tailored to the nature of
Rapide S.
The ADS automatically alters the suspension settings to
ensure the driver has high levels of control at all times, with the ability to
respond quickly to different driving conditions. The different damping modes
help to significantly broaden the character of the Rapide S, adapting its
set-up to suit the driver’s precise requirements. Thus it can be a luxurious GT
car in Normal mode with the capacity to morph into a more assertive sports car
in Sport and Track modes.
The damper settings are determined by an electronic
control unit which takes sensor readings from the car’s systems, including
throttle position, brake position, steering wheel rotation and vehicle speed.
This data establishes the prevailing driving conditions and the demands the
driver is making on the car.
Head of Product Development at Aston Martin, Ian Minards,
explains: “Growing the power in a luxury sports car is all very well, but
maximising control and ‘usability’ of that increased power is, just as much,
the engineers’ challenge.
“Balance, poise and control are the keys to a successful
sports car and the dynamic improvements we have made with Rapide S showcase our
efforts to make this not just the most beautiful, but also the most beautifully
balanced, car in its class.”
He added: “Transmission calibration, ADS refinement,
braking capability and engine output optimisation are among the many
‘ingredients’ which the team here at Gaydon have used to create a sports car of
unerring quality and excitement.”
Meanwhile, as with the new DB9, the new Rapide S achieves
compliance with the latest European pedestrian protection regulations courtesy
of its innovative new front grille design.
The lowered engine, new bonnet, new front bumper
construction and new grille combine to deliver a uniquely innovative approach
to pedestrian impact protection.
The patent-pending design – which features a unique
‘keystone’ construction – enables the grille to move rearwards on impact,
whilst the central and outboard chin stiffeners give rigidity to the lower
structure and support achievement of the leg impact regulations. Cut-outs on
the front wing catwalks contribute to the achievement of the headform regulation.
The solution means Aston Martin can remain true to its
design ethos, and avoid the use of plastic grilles and nose cone bumpers that
stretch up in front of the bonnet.
First class cabin
As luxurious as it is thrilling, the new car now boasts a
host of new luxury- or sports-orientated options, allowing buyers to more
precisely tailor the car to their specific style.
The new optional Carbon Exterior Pack, for instance,
immediately dials up the Rapide’s sporting attitude. Front splitter, rear diffuser,
mirror caps and rear lamp infills all fashioned from carbon fibre clearly
signal the sporting nature of this 558 PS four-seater.
More pronounced luxury, on the other hand, comes from the
new piano black interior pack that adds a deep, rich, mirror-like shine to the
facia, transmission tunnel centre plate and door handles of the Rapide S. A
darker surround in the instrument binnacle and steering wheel with black
horn-push surround round off the pack’s sumptuous additions. Luxurious blend
headlinings in either tan or grey emphasise the luxury still further inside.
As would be expected of a modern Aston Martin,
handcrafting is the order of the day in the Rapide S with the standard-fit pure
glass transmission selector switches in the centre console one small yet
important example of the truly authentic, bespoke, nature of the car’s cabin.
However those with a desire for a more sporting ambience
in their sports car will not be disappointed. Optional duotone perforated red
and black leather makes its Aston Martin debut here – delivering a captivating
visual combination that’s unique to the new Rapide S.
Luxury is enhanced by the removal of extraneous ‘noise’
and the enhancement of desirable ‘sound’ – a fine distinction but one that
helps the new car deliver an aural experience like no other. Improved NVH
(noise, vibration and harshness) characteristics are derived from the likes of
the new bonnet lining and revised windscreen cowl.
Flexibility comes in the form of four seats – the
rearmost two capable of accommodating adults in a uniquely sporting setting –
while at the touch of a button the individual back seats fold down to almost
triple the Aston Martin’s load space.
Options to further enhance the luxurious look and feel of
the Rapide S include, subject to market, a reversing camera and twin screen
rear seat entertainment system with wireless headphones, remote control and
six-disc DVD changer.
Those seeking the ultimate in luxury and personalisation
can also consider the ‘Q by Aston Martin’ service which offers
uniquely-tailored options for individualisation. The Q service focuses on
fashioning colour and materials with limitless boundaries precisely to customer
choice and specification, enabling owners to give free rein to the creativity
and indulge their desire for bespoke luxury.
The new Aston Martin Rapide S will be available to order
through the brand’s 146 dealers worldwide next month with prices confirmed
closer to the on-sale date.

Aston Martin debuts exclusive Centenary Edition models
·
100 examples of
each Centenary Edition model line worldwide
·
Bespoke exteriors
and interiors showcase exquisite craftsmanship
·
Luxury features include
sterling silver badging and unique paint finish
Iconic
British sports car brand Aston Martin is marking the start of its birthday
celebrations today – 15 January – with the unveiling of a bespoke new Centenary
Edition Vanquish.
The
luxury brand’s ultimate GT car showcases a painstakingly created Centenary
Edition specification that will be available worldwide on just 100 examples of
each of the car maker’s model lines: V8 Vantage, DB9, Rapide and Vanquish.
Featuring
a unique graduated paint finish, solid sterling silver Aston Martin wing badges
with tailored ‘trans flux’ enamel inlay and a special Aston Martin hallmark,
the exterior represents an exclusive new celebration of the company’s 100-year
history.
Aston
Martin CEO, Dr Ulrich Bez, played a key role in the creation of the unique
paint treatment, tasking Design Director Marek Reichman and his team with the
development of a suitably exclusive and desirable specification.
Dr
Bez explained: “Clearly, the centenary of Aston Martin is a great occasion for
our business, our customers, and our fans around the world.
“It
is only right, then, that we have developed these exceptional Centenary Edition
models which will, I am sure, quickly become highly desirable and sought-after.”
He
added: “The chance to own and enjoy such a stunning piece of Aston Martin’s
heritage is made all the more rare by the fact that we are limiting numbers to
just 100 of each model line. I am sure supporters and enthusiasts of the brand
worldwide will be anxious to secure their chosen model quickly!”
A
Centenary Edition Aston Martin is identified inside by its exclusive and
luxurious treatment. Deep Soft black leather – previously featuring only in the
One-77 hypercar – with contrasting silver stitching, a special silver thread
embroidery of the Aston Martin wings in the head restraints and solid sterling
silver sill plaques individually numbered with an Aston Martin hallmark are
among the features unique to the car.
Each
Centenary Edition model will also be supplied with a unique presentation box
containing a number of exclusive gifts to mark the first 100 years of the
company. These include two glass keys, two bespoke key pouches made from
leather matching the car’s interior trim, solid silver cufflinks featuring the
Aston Martin script, solid silver Rollerball pen and high quality Bang & Olufsen
headphones.
The
gift box will also include a silver polishing cloth to help owners ensure the
silver centenary wings badges and sill plaques on their car keep their lustre.
Some specification
details will vary market by market around the world but all cars will, as ever,
be painstakingly handcrafted at Aston Martin’s global headquarters and
state-of-the-art manufacturing facility at Gaydon, in Warwickshire.
The
process of creating the unique Centenary Edition paint finish, for instance,
clearly demonstrates the brand’s commitment to bespoke luxury. Adding an
average of 18 hours to a paint process that can already take more than 50 hours
to complete, the unique graduated finish is meticulously built by adding
special ‘tinters’ to create the darker inner colour. This custom-made mixture is
then applied to each panel by hand, using a special mini-jet spray gun.
Aston
Martin Design Director Marek Reichman explained: “The team has looked closely
at the individual contour lines of each of the cars to determine not only the
right colours and shades, but also to create a template by which the paint
changes from dark to light and where the graduated effect sits.”
Available
to order now, prices for the Centenary Edition models are obtainable on
application at Aston Martin’s 146 dealers in 46 countries worldwide.
