All-new Maserati Quattroporte Unveiled at NAIAS 2013

A larger, lighter and faster leap into the future,
yet faithful to Maserati’s long history of luxury sports saloons

The new Maserati Quattroporte was officially unveiled at the 2013 North American International Auto Show in Detroit today. The flagship of the Trident marque will be on sale in the UK at a price of £108,125 for the V8 version and £80,070 for the V6, with the first units being delivered during the Summer.

Maserati stands at the edge of an unparalleled strategic step in industrial growth that will see the company’s presence in the world rise to 50,000 units a year by 2015.  It is an increase inspired by a near century of vehicles which define style, elegance, quality and performance and driven by three new models entering key growth segments for Maserati.

This exciting progression will make the new Maserati a genuine global player. The future begins today with the all-new Maserati Quattroporte.

As the flagship of the Maserati product range, the new Quattroporte is larger, lighter, more luxurious and more practical than the globally-acclaimed car it replaces. With a 307 km/h (191 mph)  top speed, it’s also as fast as most two-door supercars.

The sixth-generation Quattroporte is a significant leap forward that not only sets the high-technology tone for Maserati’s upcoming range of new-models, but also remains faithful to Maserati’s long history of luxury sports saloons.

The powerful and proprietary Maserati engines and the large cabin are at the core of the Quattroporte’s design. Dominated by a long, powerful nose and a concave Trident grille a clear link is created to both the outgoing Quattroporte and the current GranTurismo.

The newly-developed direct-injection engine family boasts a 3.8-litre V8 and a 3.0-litre V6, both of which are twin-turbocharged, designed by Maserati Powertrain and assembled by Ferrari at its plant in Maranello. All versions come equipped with the latest eight-speed automatic transmission developed with ZF.

Even with all of its new technology, the new Quattroporte remains true to Maserati’s roots. Its 530 hp twin turbo V8 makes it not only the fastest four-door Maserati has ever built, but also the most powerful and the most fuel efficient. In direct contrast to its scintillating performance, the V8 Maserati Quattroporte has improved both its fuel consumption and emissions by 20 percent over the outgoing Quattroporte.

The 3.8-litre V8 engine sets Maserati’s new performance benchmark by reaching 100 km/h in 4.7 seconds and achieving a 307 km/h top speed- fully 20 km/h faster than the existing Quattroporte Sport GT S. At its peak it delivers up to 200 Nm more torque than the previous model.  The V6 twin turbo Q4 All-Wheel Drive variant  delivers similar performance,  capable of a top speed of 285 km/h (177mph). Please note that the Q4 variant won’t be available in RHD markets, where only V8 and V6 rear-wheel drive will be on sale.

The “Q4” system is one of the many “firsts” of the new Quattroporte: a system capable of redistributing the torque instantly from full rear wheel drive at higher speeds to a perfectly balanced 50/50 distribution between front and rear wheels when more traction is needed.
The all-new architecture retains the Quattroporte’s traditionally exquisite handling thanks to its near 50:50 weight distribution, a double-wishbone front suspension and a state-of-the-art five-link rear suspension.

The new Quattroporte also delivers new standards in quality in every area from design, development, fabrication and process controls. It is produced in a new plant that combines Maserati’s traditions of craftsmanship with cutting-edge technologies that are able to help guarantee outstanding quality by controlling even the tiniest of details.

Traditional hand-crafted design continues in the Quattroporte’s cabin, and this has been  augmented with even more interior space in all seats and both four- and five-seat layouts.

Cabin luxury leaps forward technically, too, with features like the Maserati Touch Control screen, adjustable pedals, reverse cameras and the optional 15-speaker, 1280 Watt Bowers & Wilkins audio system, as well as WLAN-based WiFi.

Starting with the original Quattroporte in 1963, Maserati invented the concept of the luxury sports saloon and the new Quattroporte continues to be the benchmark for high quality engineering, supercar performance and luxury saloon comfort.

New Maserati Quattroporte set to debut at 2013 NAIAS in Detroit

The New Maserati

“Maserati stands today at the edge of an unparalleled strategic and industrial growth that will see our presence in the world rise to 50,000 units a year by 2015. This growth is a challenge for which Maserati has carefully prepared itself and that we all welcome with anticipation.

“It is a growth based on those values of style, elegance, quality and performance for which Maserati has always been recognised and praised in almost 100 years of history. This exciting progression will make the new Maserati a true global player with two new production sites in two different continents and a heart solidly planted in Modena, Italy, where our roots are.

“It is a growth that will be based on three new models entering two new segments of the automobile market – and it starts with the all-new 2013 Maserati Quattroporte.”

Harald Wester, Maserati CEO

Maserati Quattroporte: Italian design at its best

“The new Maserati Quattroporte is a high-performance sports luxury saloon that reinterprets the design features of classic Maseratis in a contemporary design language. Its style was born out of the guiding design principles of Maserati: harmony of shapes, dynamism of lines and Italian elegance. More generous in size when compared to the previous model, the new Quattroporte has a design that is at once graceful and sinuous, fashioned to bring out the sporty nature of the car.

“Some of the elements characterising the previous model have been purposely maintained: the front grille, the three side vents and the triangular C pillar. At the same time new style and functional features have been introduced: the strong belt line that runs through the entire side of the car giving the new Quattroporte a look and feel that is at once muscular and elegant, with frameless doors and three side windows.

“Inside, the design of the Quattroporte aims at essentiality, stressing the simplicity of lines and the full functionality of the on-board instrumentation. Functional elements are blended with soft quality surfaces made of prestigious woods and refined leathers.”

Lorenzo Ramaciotti, Head of Maserati Design Centre

Maserati Quattroporte: All-New Next Generation Powertrain

“The innovative Maserati engines of the all-new Maserati Quattroporte have been designed and developed by Maserati and Ferrari engineers in the heart of Italy’s motor valley. They are going to be produced in the Ferrari plant in Maranello that has been synonymous with cutting-edge technology and passion for well over 60 years.

“Passion is indeed the middle name of a whole new generation of Maserati engines that will equip the all-new Maserati Quattroporte and the models that will soon follow it on the market. Passion and state-of-the-art technology, both at the heart of all the new Maserati engines that will be mounted on the next generation of Maserati vehicles, have produced engines that are not only more powerful than ever, or more exciting to drive than ever – but also more fuel efficient than ever before.”

Paolo Martinelli, Maserati Powertrain Director

Maserati Quattroporte: Key Technical Features

“Refined technical solutions, an explicit attention to the most challenging targets in terms of performance, comfort, efficiency and safety – these are the key elements of the all-new Maserati Quattroporte.

“Maserati engineers have worked – with a competence matched only by their passion – in chassis designing and engineering, weight reduction, ergonomic enhancement to develop a car capable of fitting different powertrain architectures and transmission configurations for the most diverse driving conditions but always maintaining Maserati’s trademark best-in-class driving comfort.

“The result is the all-new Maserati Quattroporte, a luxury sports saloon that reaches new heights in terms of performance and handling, driving enjoyment as well as respect of the world we live in: the best performance ever in the long history of Maserati’s four-door flagship saloon is matched by the unprecedented success in the quest for a more fuel efficient automobile. All this done, of course, as you may expect from Maserati, in the spirit of the most severe active and passive safety conditions.”

Roberto Corradi, Maserati Vehicle Development Director

Luxury cars are a common sight on the streets nowadays, of the 20 cars that pass by one would either be an S-class or 7 series, which you come across. Don’t get psyched, to the wealthy, imagination of luxury seems to be at a very high level. The more you add on to something which is already expensive, it still gets sold. The rich don’t seem to stop at anything!

When I spoke to a super rich person during one of my photo shoot, he said “I buying anything which my head hooks on to”. I did not understand the depth of what he said at that moment, but the level from where he said, gave me a hint, he could buy merely anything, with 12 luxury cars at his backyard.

Well, I am talking about the Maserati Quattroporte, a super luxury car from a super-car manufacturer the Maserati, an Italian master piece of luxury on wheel. The Quattroporte is destined to provide smooth and quite drive, but if you choose to provoke, it roars!

This Maserati Quattroporte is from the fifth generation from the inception in 1963, since then, legendary Italian manufacturer has combined both sports and luxury to a new form as sporting-luxury four-door saloon.

The car which we spotted was the Maserati Quattroporte Executive GT, the flagship version of the Quattroporte. The Executive GT was introduced at the North American International Auto Show.

The Pininfarina designed Italian marquee beats a 4.2 liter V8 engine producing a massive 395hp. That is not it, this luxury sports bred saloon sprints from a still to 100 km/h in 5.6 seconds, and achieves a top speed of 269 km/h.

The Executive GT version is a Maserati comfort pack with ventilated, heating, massaging rear seats, retractable wood rear tables, and curtain shades on the rear windows.
