With the launch of its first sports utility vehicle (SUV) called ‘Force One’, Force Motors, manufacturers of products such as Trax, Traveller, Trump and Gurkha, is set to display its expertise in the SUV segment as well.

Force One will be powered by a 2.2 liter CRDI engine from Mercedes, producing 140 PS of power and 350 Nm of torque. The suspension set-up has been tuned by Lotus Engineering. The complete vehicle and the onboard electronics will be validated by Mercedes-Benz Technologies.

During a press conference in Mumbai, Managing Director Prasan Firodia said, “In the first year, we are targeting 4,000 units being sold and in the following year we are eyeing 8,000-9,000 units being sold. We will rollout Force One next month. Next year we are gearing up to launch a multi-purpose passenger vehicle (MPV) and in 2013 we are hoping to launch the SUV’s successor which will be more premium.”

Force One will be assembled at the Pithampur plant in Madhya Pradesh. The plant has a capacity of 12,000 and can be increased to 18,000 units based on demand.

According to the company, a new logo will be designed to differentiate the company’s commercial vehicle units from its personal vehicle division.
