The MINI Countryman: Model update measures for autumn 2012.

In the two years since its launch onto the world’s car markets, the MINI Countryman has developed into a driving force behind the continuing growth of the brand. The transference of hallmark MINI qualities and values into a new vehicle segment has won over new target groups worldwide to the brand’s unmistakable style. Autumn 2012 will see the British carmaker’s first model to offer all-wheel drive benefiting from an extensive round of modifications which will further enhance the allure of its boundless driving fun. Detailed refinements to the car’s design and the selection of materials available for the interior shine the spotlight even more brightly on a premium character none of the MINI Countryman’s rivals can match. The spacious five-door’s optimised ease of use underlines its very modern appreciation of practicality.

The modifications designed for the MINI Countryman will be rolled out across all model variants from November 2012. Open one of the front doors and the newly designed rings encircling the Centre Speedo and four air vents immediately stand out. They will now be presented across the board in the colour shade Carbon Black and also have an inner ring in high-gloss black or – as part of the Chrome Line Interior option – in chrome. Both in standard trim and with options specified, the fresh appeal of the colours and materials adds further lustre to the high-quality character of the MINI Countryman interior.

Newly designed door inserts also help to enhance the car’s premium ambience, comfort and practicality. Remodelled door armrests provide even more comfortable support for the arms, and the controls for the electric windows are now also positioned in the door trim. A full control panel is integrated into the door armrest on the driver’s side. The switches clustered here include the controls for all the windows, the deactivation facility for the rear window controls and adjustment for the exterior mirrors. Moving the window controls away from the centre console also optimises access to the larger storage compartment below it. From autumn 2012 the MINI Countryman will come as standard with a three-seat rear bench, while a pair of individual seats will be available as a no-cost alternative.

As well as changes to the range of interior colours, interior trim elements and Colour Lines, the selection of exterior paint finishes will also be given a refresh in autumn 2012. New additions include the suitably expressive colour shades Brilliant Copper metallic and Blazing Red metallic. Plus, a restructuring of the equipment packages on offer to customers will make it even easier to customise the MINI Countryman to reflect their tastes.

Customers can choose from six engine variants for the MINI Countryman. The three petrol and three diesel units produce outputs stretching from 66 kW/90 hp to 135 kW/184 hp. Beyond these, there is also the ultra-sporty MINI John Cooper Works Countryman, powered by a turbocharged 160 kW/218 hp engine. The ALL4 all-wheel-drive system fitted as standard on this top-class performance variant is also available as an option for the MINI Cooper S Countryman, MINI Cooper SD Countryman and MINI Cooper D Countryman. All models, with the exception of the MINI One D Countryman, can be ordered with a six-speed automatic gearbox as an alternative to the standard six-speed manual. The impressive efficiency of the engines and gearboxes along with extensive MINIMALISM technology ensure all the MINI Countryman variants achieve an exemplary balance between driving fun and fuel economy. Added to which, from autumn 2012 manual versions of the MINI One Countryman and MINI Cooper Countryman will meet the stipulations of the EU6 exhaust emissions standard due to come into force in 2014.

BMW M Performance at the Essen Motor Show 2012

Just a few weeks after the triple triumph at the German Touring Car Masters (DTM), the BMW appearance at the Essen Motor Show 2012 is inspired by the brand's sensationally successful comeback season. The current BMW M Performance range is presented at the international tuning fair, celebrating the success of BMW in the driver, team and manufacturer rankings. The retrofit products from the program of Original BMW Accessories perfectly exemplify the intensive transfer of technology from motor racing. The range of products from the areas of drive, suspension, aerodynamics and cockpit is currently being extended to other BMW models. At the Essen Motor Show from December 1st - 9th 2012, visitors will be able to see the world premiere of the BMW M Performance accessories for the new BMW 3 Series Touring (available from April 2013). There will also be an attractive program of activities to create DTM atmosphere and motor racing flair at the exhibition stand, which covers a surface area of approximately 480 square metres. For example trade fair visitors will be able to take part in the "Pit Stop Challenge", demonstrating their tyre-changing skills on a DTM racing car or be able to obtain BMW DTM driver’s original signatures at one of the autograph sessions.

"BMW M Performance accessories create a link between our cars on the race track and the sporty BMW serial production models," says DTM driver Martin Tomcyzk. As the driver of the BMW M Performance Accessories DTM for the BMW Team RMG, the 2011 DTM champion contributed to the overall victory of BMW in the manufacturer rankings. BMW M Performance products are created specifically for each model and produced in close collaboration with BMW M GmbH. This means that BMW drivers who are racing enthusiasts and especially value high performance are able to profit from longstanding experience and race-winning expertise when they opt for a BMW M Performance product. What is more, the BMW M Performance range is characterised by authentic design and uncompromising premium quality.

The breadth of this program of products offering finest performance at first hand is due to be extended as of spring 2013. The Essen Motor Show 2012 will feature the first display of retrofit products designed for the new BMW 3 Series Touring. For example, the BMW 320d Touring on show will be fitted with a BMW M Performance Power Kit, which increases the peak output of the 2.0 litre diesel engine from 135 kW/184 bhp to 147 kW/200 bhp. In addition, the five-door model has a BMW M Performance suspension with a particularly sporty set-up as well as a BMW M Performance brake system. The 20-inch M Performance light alloy wheels of the Touring model feature a double-spoke design and the bi-colour look in Ferric Grey typical of BMW M Performance with burnished spoke fronts. Meanwhile the interior of the BMW 3 Series Touring also has a touch of racing flair to supplement the model-specific BMW M Performance exterior components. The range here includes a BMW M Performance sports steering wheel with Race Display, BMW M Performance stainless steel pedals, interior strips in Alcantara and carbon and numerous other interior components finished in carbon. In the latter, a new, open-pore type of carbon is used featuring a matt structure which perfectly matches the Alcantara surfaces.

The BMW 320d Touring fitted with BMW M Performance products is literally presented right on the ideal line at the Essen show. For the first time, the exhibition area is designed in the style of a race track with the models on display occupying their positions on a left-right chicane complete with painstakingly recreated curbs. In addition to the new BMW 125i there is also a BMW 120d of the predecessor generation, a BMW 535i Sedan and a BMW M3 Coupé  - all featuring the maximum scope of BMW M Performance products.

There will also be a BMW M3 DTM positioned in the "pit lane" of the trade fair stand. This vehicle will be used for the "Pit Stop Challenge" - a competition in which participants have to change tyres as quickly as possibly using original DTM team equipment. The racing workshop character of the exhibition area is further enhanced by numerous exhibitions which show technical details of the BMW M Performance components. There is also an interactive configurator which provides a precise overview of the range of products available for each specific model. Meanwhile the current product program is available at the BMW Accessories and Lifestyle Shop at attractive trade fair rates. Visitors to the Essen Motor Show can also obtain a voucher which gives them reductions on accessory products purchased from participating BMW dealerships and service partners.

The BMW appearance at the Essen Motor Show 2012 continues the brand's involvement in this event as started last year with a wide range of new attractions. Racing-inspired accessories for BMW models turned out to be highly popular among fans of sporty and individual automobiles last year. Once again this year, the Essen Exhibition Centre will be an international meeting point for exhibitors and visitors who share a passion for motor racing. The organisers are expecting some 340,000 visitors to the fair, which will be held for the 45th time.

MINI John Cooper Works at the Essen Motor Show 2012.

Enthusiasm for extremely athletic driving fun and individual flair will attract visitors to the Essen Motor Show from December 1st to 9th at the trade fair centre at Grugapark. In Hall 3.0 they will see how John Cooper Works accessory products can be used to provide a top-quality and authentic upgrade for MINI - the epitome of agility and distinctive style in the small car segment. The current program comprising retrofit components in the areas of drive, suspension, aerodynamics and interior, developed using extensive racing experience, will be presented at the Essen Motor Show 2012. There will also be a spectacular program of multimedia activities not to mention a range of other visual and musical highlights to ensure a thrilling encounter with the John Cooper Works brand, integrated under the umbrella of MINI.

The John Cooper Works accessories program guarantees MINI drivers authentic and selective enhancement of their car's performance. The John Cooper Works logo not only stands for decades of racing experience but also for an equally longstanding connection with MINI. The name of legendary sports car designer John Cooper was already associated with the classic Mini as a sign of success on the race track and maximum driving fun on the road. Today the John Cooper Works product portfolio includes a range of vehicles now extending to a total of six models as well as a diverse program of retrofit accessories which further enhance and visually underscore the athletic talents of MINI.

The variety of the John Cooper Works accessory product range will be demonstrated at the Essen Motor Show, not least in the form of a MINI Cooper S geared entirely towards race track performance in terms of both exterior and interior features as well as in the areas of drive and suspension. The technical details of all components available for MINI models are illustrated by means of exhibits and a spectacular multimedia show featuring 3D effects.

Meanwhile the combination of accessories from the MINI RAY product line provides a whole new way of expressing individual style: an example of this is presented in a MINI Countryman for the first time in Germany. MINI RAY adds a dash of colour to the grey of the asphalt with a range of stylish decorative elements. The components are made of high-quality materials and are offered in six colours which have been designed especially for the MINI RAY product line. In addition to Alien Green, customers can also choose from Lemon Yellow, Vitamin Orange, Energy Pink, Shocking Blue and Flash White. The MINI Cooper SD Countryman with ALL4 all-wheel drive on show in Essen features a paint finish in Light White, with MINI RAY mirror caps, MINI RAY decorative stripes and MINI RAY turn indicator surrounds adding a powerful dash of colour with the exclusive Alien Green finish. The new product line also comprises wheel hub covers as well as plates for the radiator grille and interior.

Both the MINI RAY products and the John Cooper Works accessory products reflect the excellent standards of the BMW Group in terms of design, quality and safety. What is more, retrofitting these items has no impact whatsoever on the warranty terms as applicable to the vehicle in question. Sales and installation are taken care of by the MINI dealer network, MINI sales subsidiaries and MINI service partners.

After the highly successful premiere last year, the aim of the John Cooper Works presentation at the Essen Motor Show 2012 is once again to establish close contact with members of the public interested in athletic flair, individual style and premium quality. The Essen trade fair is regarded as the most highly frequented automobile shows of the year in Germany and the organisers are anticipating some 340,000 visitors.

There will be attractive offers from the MINI Lifestyle and the Original MINI Accessories program available at trade fair rates at the exhibition stand. Visitors will also be able to obtain vouchers for discounts when purchasing MINI accessory products from participating dealerships and service partners.
Fans of sporty automobiles can look forward to a fitting welcome from one exceptionally athletic vehicle bearing the John Cooper Works logo. A MINI John Cooper Works GP will be positioned in the outside area of the trade fair centre. This two-seater with an output of 160 kW/218 bhp and fitted with the full range of motor racing technology is presented in a cage with the words: "Beware - it bites!" However, the fastest MINI ever built is in fact kept with such care for quite a different reason. The MINI John Cooper Works GP is not just an extremely fast sprinter, it is also exceptionally rare since it is produced in a small series of just 2,000.

With an all-wheel-drive system that offers reassuring driveability in all conditions, the Bentley Continental GT is the perfect Grand Tourer to take on the challenge posed by driving in snow and icy conditions, particularly as the northern hemisphere winter sets in.  To push the car’s cold climate capabilities further, February 2013 sees the return of the Bentley Power on Ice programme, offering existing owners, enthusiasts and aspiring drivers the chance to explore the extreme limits of the Continental GT on the frozen lakes of northern Finland.

While the Continental GT is a relaxing and exceptionally capable Grand Tourer regardless of the driving surface, the participants will be led by a team of expert instructors who will help the guests explore a range of driving techniques. Leading the line-up is Finnish rally star, four-time World Rally champion and modern-day Bentley Boy Juha Kankkunen. Kankkunen is already an expert at driving Bentleys on ice; in February 2011 he broke his own Ice Speed Record, piloting a Bentley Continental Supersports Convertible to 205 mph (330 km/h) on the frozen Baltic Sea off the coast of Finland. A national hero in his native Finland, Kankkunen comments:

“The opportunity to once again drive the Continental GT around our famous ice tracks is one I can’t resist. The huge power combined with all-wheel-drive and the new eight-speed gearbox makes the GT the perfect car for such exciting and engaging driving. Our customers are always amazed that their cars are so rewarding to drive at the limit of grip, and it’s my pleasure to teach them how to do it!”

After flying to the town of Kuusamo on a private charter, guests are driven to the exclusive ski resort of Ruka, just 60 km from the edge of the Arctic Circle, arriving at the luxury Chalet Ruka Peak boutique hotel. The two-day programme focuses on driving both the V8 and W12 versions of the legendary all-wheel-drive Continental GT on the smooth ice of the local lakes, on tracks specially prepared by Bentley’s winter driving team.

As well as the exhilarating driving opportunities, guests have the chance to enjoy a range of Nordic activities. Snowmobiling, a night-time husky sled safari, traditional Finnish smoke saunas and dinner at an historic reindeer farm complete the programme and provide perfect opportunities for relaxation following the thrilling driving sessions on the ice.

Bentley's Power on Ice programme runs from 7th-28th February 2013, with places starting at Euros 9,990 per driver.  More details are available through the worldwide Bentley dealer network or at http://www.bentleydriving.com/index.php/poweronice.

BMW Motorrad presents K 1300 S special model. K 1300 S "30 Jahre K-Modelle ".

At the EICMA motorcycle show in Milan, BMW Motorrad is presenting the exclusive special model K 1300 S "30 Jahre K-Modelle" to mark the 30th anniversary of the BMW Motorrad K series.

It was in 1983 that BMW Motorrad launched the K 100, the first ever BMW fitted with a liquid-cooled 4-cylinder in-line engine and also featuring a completely distinct and - for its time - pioneering technological concept: the BMW Compact Drive System with longitudinally mounted crankshaft and horizontal cylinder bank. This first generation of the K models also ushered in technological innovations such as the first electronic fuel injection system. This was followed five years later by the introduction of 4-valve technology and the very first ABS system in a serial motorcycle. In 2004, BMW Motorrad established the third generation of the series with the K 1200 S, now with its crankshaft arranged transversely to the direction of travel and featuring the two suspension innovations Duolever and ESA (Electronic Suspension Adjustment). The BMW K-series was also supplemented with the two in-line 6-cylinder models K 1600 GT/GTL in 2010.

The special model K 1300 S "30 Jahre K-Modelle" celebrates the success story of the K series with an extensive range of options and a special colour concept in Alpine white / Sapphire black metallic and Racing red in conjunction with a tinted windshield.

Electronic suspension adjustment ESA II and the Safety Package including RDC and Automatic Stability Control ASC ensure that the K 1300 S "30 Jahre K-Modelle" has a comprehensive set of safety systems in addition to the standard ABS.

The HP shift assistant and HP footrests for rider and passenger reflect the sporty aspirations of the K 1300 S. Meanwhile the Akrapovič sports silencer provides the appropriately athletic 4-cylinder sound, in addition to giving the model a dynamic appearance.

The K 1300 S "30 Jahre K-Modelle" meets more sophisticated demands in the area of comfort with heated grips and an on-board computer.

Above and beyond this, the K 1300 S special model "30 Jahre K-Modelle" can be individually supplemented with special accessories and options from the extensive BMW Motorrad range, with the exception of standard paint finishes.

Jeep announces sporting new Jeep Grand Cherokee S-limited

Plans to continue the success of the remarkable Jeep range of 4x4 vehicles have been announced, with details of a formidable new Grand Cherokee ‘Sports Line’ version, the S-Limited.

Designed to sit competitively in the ‘sports-styled’ premium SUV segment of the hotly contested 4WD market, the new Grand Cherokee S-Limited will offer all the presence of Jeep’s legendary muscular sports styling, but without the large capacity petrol engines seen in outright performance versions such as the 6.4-litre V8-powered Grand Cherokee SRT.

The new Jeep Grand Cherokee S-Limited comes with an assertive yet attractive sports appearance, taking many styling cues from the recent SRT version, while offering some of the more desirable product highlights from the rest of the popular Grand Cherokee range in terms of fuel economy, 4x4 capability, safety, technology and comfort.

Real carbon fibre trim surrounds passengers with style and craftsmanship, demonstrating how the S-Limited is designed from the outset to offer greater style and equipment for a more attractive price than its competitors.

The interior of the new S-Limited features a leather-wrapped heated steering wheel and ventilated sports-styled Nappa leather seats. Bright, racing style pedal pads add to the sporty, performance-oriented look inside the cabin.

Further standard features include Quadra-Lift air suspension, Quadra-Trac II four wheel drive system, cross-path detection, adaptive cruise control, blind spot monitoring, Uconnect navigation, black gloss 20-inch alloy wheels, 825-watt Harman-Kardon audio system with 19 speakers and three sub-woofers, power tailgate, and distinctive black grille and rear light bar.

Powered by Jeep’s proven 237bhp, 2987cc V6 CRD diesel engine with new-generation, 1,800-bar injectors and MultiJet II technology developed by Fiat Powertrain, the new Grand Cherokee S-Limited will cost £44,595 (OTR) when it goes on sale this month.
“Styled and targeted to the important sports-line SUV sub-segment and with a high level of equipment on offer, the S-Limited is very attractively priced and positioned,” says Nigel Land, brand director, Jeep Chrysler UK. “With its sporting look this new addition will complete the Grand Cherokee range while appealing to a whole new group of customers.”

Lamborghini unveils the new Gallardo LP 570-4 Super Trofeo 2013

Automobili Lamborghini’s President & CEO outlines 2013 plan for a thriving series

Navarra, Spain/Sant’Agata Bolognese, October 17, 2012. Stephan Winkelmann, Automobili Lamborghini’s President and CEO set out a bold vision for the ultimate one make series Lamborghini Blancpain Super Trofeo at the final round of the European series in Los Arcos, Navarra.

Flanked by the company’s Research & Development Director and Head of Lamborghini Motorsport, Maurizio Reggiani, the pair outlined how the series has significantly expanded its grid, inaugurated a successful championship in Asia, provided a fertile environment for guest and VIP immersion in the Lamborghini brand, and had built a significant following through traditional and burgeoning social media. The Lamborghini executives were joined by Alain Delamuraz, Vice President and Head of Marketing, Blancpain, the series’ principal sponsor.

While summarizing the successes Super Trofeo had recorded over the past twelve months, the press conference in the Atalaya Centre at the Navarra race circuit provided the stage to unveil the series’ 2013 race car, the new Gallardo LP 570-4 Super Trofeo.

The 2013 Gallardo

As outlined by Maurizio Reggiani, the 2013 Gallardo is based on the proven chassis and mechanical platform of its predecessor, but takes a significant step forward following extensive aerodynamic re-profiling of the surface geometries and the addition of adjustable aerodynamic devices, including an all-new ten-position rear wing.

The net benefit of this significant aerodynamic upgrade is 120% improvement in aerodynamic efficiency over the Gallardo’s 2012 model. With re-modelling of brake ducts, the new Gallardo LP 570-4 Super Trofeo achieves a 50% improvement in thermal performance with improved front brake cooling, while better balance and dynamic performance is achieved by increasing downforce by 128kg in low downforce set up and 160kg in high downforce trim.

While the racing technology advances, Mr Reggiani emphasises that the Gallardo provides an efficient and cost-effective platform for customer racing. “We have taken a significant step forward with the aerodynamic performance of the new Gallardo LP 570-4 Super Trofeo, but still the car stays true to our core principles. We believe that it is important to evolve the car, while ensuring Super Trofeo remains an attractive series in which to compete.”
